In short, whereas traditional slasher films are about radically conservative tales of chaotic Id-characters (e.g., Freddie Krueger, Jason, Michael Myers) let loose in traditionally orderly, controlled environments (e.g., summer camp, schools, cookie-cutter suburban neighborhoods), the Saw franchise is the expression of a tedious, pseudo-intellectual cultural bureaucracy that promises titties and Fear Factor, but only delivers Oprah and Dr. Phil sermons.
