I'm a Minneapolitan and part of my town fell down yesterday

Just wanted to relate a little story.

Last night my girlfriend and I were on our bikes, picking up some groceries before we spent the evening grilling venison and various kinds of burgers in the backyard with some friends. I was riding my Xtracycle, and after we'd stopped at the grocery store I figured we'd go faster if I just stood outside with the bikes rather than locking up while she went into the liquor store.

As she was stepping through the door I remembered that I wanted her to pick up cans of Surly, but she didn't hear me calling out. Again, rather than locking the bikes up I figured it might be faster and funnier to just call her cell phone and tell her what I wanted.

I tried probably five times, each time getting the "all circuits busy" message that you only get when the whole world is calling each other to check and see if people are alive. "Hmph," I said. "I hope nothing too horrible's happened." Another guy on a bike explained it to us on the street, about 2 minutes before we had to ride under another I-35 bridge that goes over the Minnehaha creek in South Minneapolis. That was a nervous couple of minutes, riding underneath fire trucks driving over a bridge I'd never been afraid of before.

So the bridge fell down, and I had to drink Newcastle last night.
