The Hydrogen Hoax
The New Atlantis - The Hydrogen Hoax - Robert Zubrin
Hydogen is a alternative fuel pipe dream. Developing it is a fool's errand, and anyone who tells you otherwise should be carefully vetted before giving them any credibility. The billions of dollars we give to the auto companies to develop it could be better used in almost any capacity than hydrogen research.
Unfortunately, it’s all pure bunk. To get serious about energy policy, America needs to abandon, once and for all, the false promise of the hydrogen age.
If we are to achieve any progress on this most critical issue, the myth of the hydrogen economy needs to be debunked. It is bad science, bad economics, and bad public policy.
He goes on to describe in detail the problems with a engery policy centered around Hydrogen, including fatal flaws in supply, production, distribution, and use in vehicles. I encourage you read the entire article.
I wanted to be sure that this essay was grounded in fact so I investigated the author. He's about as trustworthy an expert source as you could ask for, from my point of view. Robert Zubrin holds a BA in mathematics, a masters in Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a masters and Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering. Hei is the author of over 200 papers and five books, was awarded his first patent at the age of twenty for a three-player version of chess, and recently invented a Nuclear Salt Water Rocket, featured in the Charles Stross novel Singularity Sky.
