Adolf Hitler and Russian leader Stalin were possessed by the Devil, the Vatican's chief exorcist has claimed.
Father Gabriele Amorth who is Pope Benedict XVI's 'caster out of demons' made his comments during an interview with Vatican Radio.
Father Amorth said: "Of course the Devil exists and he can not only possess a single person but also groups and entire populations.
That thing that pisses me off about this is the same thing that pisses me off about people who claim the Holocaust is "unthinkable" or "unimaginable." It greatly downplays the capacity for evil we have as humans, especially towards people who are different from us. In Hitler's case, this was Jews, Gypsies, Catholics, Communists and homosexuals. In Stalin's case it was, well, pretty much the same list but without the Communists.
Was Pope Pius XII possessed by the devil during the Holocaust? Is that why he didn't publicly say anything against it? If not, then he was a sitting pope--the voice of the Catholic God on Earth--who sat by while the Devil killed millions and millions of people.
Do you see how this line of reasoning is absolutely not productive?
